Adolescents with Gambling Problems...

  • come from all social backgrounds and are both male and female;
  • are usually competitive, perfectionist, bright and extroverted;
  • started gambling at home in their pre-teens;
  • began gambling socially by playing cards, betting on sports pools, or buying lottery tickets;
  • are unaware when a social activity crosses over to become a problem.

Many Adolescent Gamblers...

  • are living in a dysfunctional environment. They may feel hurt, guilty, rejected, or confused;
  • have poor relations with family and friends due to their gambling;
  • may be experiencing eating disorders, drug and alcohol problems, or some of their family members may have these problems.
